HI-RES JPEG Maps for Major Cities

Even though our layered vector maps are well loved by the Adobe Illustrators who use them, other people are frustrated because they don't use Illustrator and they can't open the maps.  They may just want to drop a portion of a map into layout, but the Ilustrator format is an obstacle.

So we decided to make some of our major city maps available in HI-RES JPEG format.  The maps are full size, 300 dpi CMYK high resolution images. They have lots of detail including streets and significant features.

Right now, we've got JPEG format maps for Boston, Chicago, Denver, Los Angeles, Minneapolis, New York City, Philadelphia, San Francisco, Washington, DC.  If there's any other city you need, call 800-334-4291 or email sales@mapresources.com to request one.

For information, including prices and comps, go to our New Maps page.

Decorate Your Walls With Maps!

Now you can buy any Map Resources map as a beautiful wall map.  Through MapSales.com, you can choose a digital map from our collection, then order a custom print.

sizes-icon.gifMaps are available in these sizes:
36x48, 48x64, 60x80, 72x96, 90x120, 108x144
Or you can ask for a custom size.

Wall maps are laminated on both sides using 3 mil hot process. Lamination protects the maps, and allows you to write on them with dry-eraser markers.

Map Sales also offers nice finishing options for a more professional look.  Options include: mounted maps, wooden rails, magnetic, spring rollers and valances.

You can order a printed custom map online or by calling MapSales at 888-434-6277.

Resizing a Vector Map

tips-Globe-ReSized.jpg An important advantage of vector format maps is that you can resize the image, larger or smaller, with no loss of quality.

Here's how you resize using the Scale Tool in Adobe Illustrator:

  • Select all so the entire map is selected.
  • Using the Scale Tool dialog box, enter a percentage value for your new scale in the dialog box that appears. Be sure that you are using "Uniform" scaling so that the proportions of the map remain intact.

Vector Format Is Critical for Publication-Quality Maps

Publishers are always seeking the best quality images for their work.  And for maps, vector format usually delivers the highest quality image.

Maps are essentially lines, text and fill colors, and these are best depicted in a vector environment. Maps often contain a tremendous amount of information, and vector format delivers unsurpassed clarity for small font sizes, delicate boundary lines, and intricate coastlines. Even small details are legible on vector maps.

tips-NYC-detail.jpgAnother important advantage of vector format maps is that you can resize the image, larger or smaller, with no loss of quality.  No matter how much you enlarge a vector map image, the clarity is retained.  You never have to worry about poor resolution or bit mapped "jaggies".

And if you want to use a vector map on a web site or other bit-mapped environment, you simple resize a vector map to the size you want to use, then rasterize it.
